Radio Popper - 05-12-2011, 01:22 AM

My radio popper PX transmitter went south this past weekend. It was working normally then just stopped and started flashing an "E2" error. A change of batteries would not clear the error.
Placed a call to RP customer service and the unit must be sent in for repairs. and since it is out of warranty, the repair could be pricey.
I ordered a new unit yesterday which should be in today.
RP are awesome until they malfunction and you have to rely on CLS, which shortens the working distance.
Just venting over the unexpected two hundred and sixty dollars I had to shell out this week.

Did they explain what caused the issue? How old was the transmitter?

One Small Flash, Very Far Away…. Joe McNally’s Blog

I was there when Joe triggered the flash waaaaay over on the bridge. I was just off to the right of the bridge.

Random, I know. Your post just reminded me of it.

One thing with that test/shot which helped was the overcast skies. If it was out in just daylight, your range is considerably less than what was tested.

Agree, and he said that exact same thing himself when he did it.

I remember TriCoast Photography created a video testing the Radio Poppers. They reach distances of over 600+ feet triggering an ocf.

No explanation to the cause. I am sure that they have seen it before though because she immediately stated it would have to be repaired in house. I purchased at imaging USA, when they first came out.

I remember watching that video also. They were comparing against the new pocket wizard system. Convinced me to stick with the RP system.

Agreed.

I'm still using the P1 system.
