Vagabond Mini Lithium Rechargeable power - 05-22-2011, 04:17 PM

I'm sure this subject has been brought up but I'm not sure where to look for it. I considered battery packs or a small generator, but now I'm hearing about this little power pack. Sounds almost too good to be true. Anyone have any experience with them. Do they work with any 110 volt plug-in strobes?

Found the specs for their batter in a review

Quote:
The Vagabond Mini Lithium is comprised of a 120 watt (continuous) pure sine wave inverter with thermostatically-controlled cooling fan, quick-change 14.8VDC/8.8Ah Lithium battery module, twin three-prong AC sockets and four-stage battery gauge in a trim 3.5lb/1.6kg ABS plastic shell. It can be fixed to a lightstand with the included spring clamp or any other mounting accessory that can attach to the unit's 1/4-20 socket. The Vagabond Mini Lithium ships with a shoulder strap as well, for those who wish to suspend it from the stand, or themselves.
One thing I do like about the Lithiums vs Sealed Lead Acid is that if you set and forget, the battery is not ruined and can be recharged thousands of times. They are also more stable / less prone to fires. The batteries also weigh a fraction of the weight of a SLA. The pure sine wave inverter is very good as it duplicates an AC power source the best and will be more reliable and protect the electronics of your AC powered devices.

I made my own battery pack for an upcoming trip (as well as anything else that may come up needing portable power). Everything fits in a Lowepro Reva bag. Picked up a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFe PO4) battery made by Shorai. The battery is 18Ah and only weighs 2.2lbs. Compared to a Lead Acid battery, these things are tiny. The one I picked up could also be recharged quickly within 4 hours.
