Unhappy Broken SB800?!? - 06-01-2011, 12:46 PM

The other day I was out shooting and I had my SB800 on a lite lightstand and it blew over hitting the ground!!! I pick it up and the lens part of the flash was cracked and a nice scratch on the corner of the body. Well, I test it out and it made a grinding noise from the flash however, it flashed just fine. The grinding noise seams to be coming from the focal mechanism from the flash. So, what do you yall guys think...repairable or trashed?

I'll prolly let Percsion Camera look at it this weekend.

Did you call Nikon USA? They should be able to give you an idea of the cost to replace the housing and the motor (need be) so you can make an informed decision.

I've had 3 flashes in for service...all came back alive. Around $189 mostly.

Sorry to hear of your tragic event. I have had this happen too. I do hope that your repair bill isn't too expensive. Good luck!
