How do you nature lovers handle the need for a light stand when hiking / trekking?

Do you carry a lightstand and a tripod?

Does anyone use Trek-Tech TrekPod as a light stand? I don't think I would trust it as a tripod but perhaps it would work as a light stand.

Would be used mostly for lighting people I'm hiking with in really cool places :) I am looking to do more than snapshots.

Thoughts / Suggestions?

My setup on hikes is as follows:
  • Gitzo Carbon Mountaineer Tripod
  • Six Ball Bungees (of three varying sizes/lengths)
  • Three Pocket Wizards
  • Standard Lens
  • Camera Body
  • Small Calibration Target
  • Two Speedlights
  • One shoot through umbrella

It ends up being between 10 and 15 pounds overall.

I use the bungees as my tools for setting speedlights. There is usually plenty around to which I can strap the speedlights.

thanks. I use a gitzo 1541 and i think my double fold umbrella will slide into the side of my sling bag. I may only be able to fit 1 flash + stuff, but it maybe be workable.

GorillaPod .. you can use its flexible legs to wrap around tree branches to get your light higher...

I have some great travel stands. They fold to about 3 or 4 feet and weight only a couple pounds each. Little low on build quality, but great to run around with. You can hook up big boxes or umbrella adapters, anything really.
