Cowboy Studio package? - 06-17-2011, 12:06 AM

So I bought they cheap lil Cowboy Studio package since I'm just learning on it, and I already HATE the lights it came with. Horrible umbrellas too.

Any suggestions on how I can kick it up? Or maybe some better lights that wont require me to sell my soul....

What's your budget? You can get Adorama Flashpoint strobes that are something like 120w/s-150w/s for $100 each. It's Adorama's brand and they're a great company to deal with.

Cowboy Studios is just bad news all around. They have something like a 30 warranty on their strobes while any other brand I know about will have at least one year. In fact, there was a guy complaining about how they wouldn't replace one of his Cowboy lights that caught fire the 2nd month he owned it. And not to mention the blatant trademark infringement on the Strobist brand.

Yeah I had one light bulb burn out the very first time I turned it on. O well, I can use the light stands and background and just replace the lights. Thanks for the suggestion on the lights

I would save up just a bit more, and step into the Alien Bee lights. Regardless of which light, buy something with a little more power, even if it is only one light. You can augment this with a Speedlight and, or, reflectors for some fantastic results.
