I'm definitely liking the abilityto put this ring light on a stand and not mounting it to the camera.

Not sure that $200 is affordable is everyone's book.

The 12 inch is $170. The 18 inch is $200.

If you look at some of the other ring light "attachments" that use your off camera flash unit, they are in the same neighborhood.
The Ray Flash is $192
The Expo Imaging unit is $172 to $200.
The Orbis is $199 just for the unit. If you want the "System" it's $249.

The Alien Bee ring flash $399.95. (In a whole different class than the previous three mentioned seeing as it's a whole unit and not just an adapter.)

This unit, if it performs as they show in their little intro video, looks promising.
Everyone I've spoken with in regards to the adapter ring lights, have said that their results are less than stellar.

I found a circline (otherwise known as T-9) flourescent tube with a 120v plug in ballast at home depot this weekend. I don't remember the price, but it was in the 20$ range.

Home depot carries a variety of T-9 bulbs (up to 40w) which would fit the 4 post ballast.

Couple this with a padding material and a superclamp, and you can adapt the light to fit on any light stand.
