Softbox recommendations - 08-05-2011, 09:52 AM

I have Impact brand (B&H's in house brand) monolights and the softboxes that came with Impact's kit. The softbox is very difficult to assemble. I have found a speedring that fits Impact (and Bowens) monolights. Does anyone have experience with softboxes that would fit this setup but are more "user friendly".
You'll know what I mean when you try to put Impact's softboxes together.

Thanks in advance, Bill

Not sure what size your looking for but I just purchased a newly developed from Denny Mfg. foldable 4x6' softbox.

Makes my location work FAST and EASY with a wonderful light for my commercial work.

Either way I would look into the foldable kind as they make set up so easy.

Thanks Mike. This looks like a good design. I'm still looking but this is the best I've seen so far.

I'm a reallllly big fan of the Wescott Apollo. But they aren't durable enough for me to justify the price. Photek softlighters are pretty nice too, but a bit too big for my tastes.

Both of these use the umbrella mount, which isn't the best compared to a speed ring but fold up easier than any specific speedring I've used.

I've found photoflex units easy enough to assemble.

It's not a softbox, but it has a similar effect, it's more portable and easy to assemble (I'm finding myself using it more and more as well): the Photek Softlighter II.

Liebovitz used it in this shoot.

There are all sorts of alternatives to soft boxes, beauty dishes are one choice or snoots with cloth transparent covers and other tools but each gives a certain adjustment to the light-heck even barn doors adjust light.
