Lighting GTG Group - Austin Area? - 08-16-2011, 07:15 PM

I will finally have some space to dedicate to photography (15'x20') along with hard floors when we move this week into another house. I thought it may be fun to put together a study group of sorts with others that want to learn lighting. Would be fun to have a theme each meeting or try to recreate a photo's lighting. Once it cools down, maybe we could venture out to do outside location shooting as well. I'm still learning myself so it would not be instructor led - more learn as a group by doing/sharing (unless someone would like to step up).

Here is what equipment I have to share:

4 - Alien Bees B800
1 - Alien Bees ABR800
2 - Canon 580EX II
1 - Cyber Commander
1 - Cyber Sync Transmitter
4 - Cyber Sync CSR+
2 - Cyber Sync CSRB+
2 - Standard Light Stands
1 - Heavy Duty Light Stand
1 - Boom Stand w/ Arm
2 - Short Background Stands
1 - Grid set for 7" reflectors
2 - 30x60 Giant Softboxes
2 - 24x36 Medium Softboxes
2 - 12x36 Strip Boxes
1 - Beauty Dish
1 - 64" PLM
Background Stand and 5 10x20 muslins (white, black, brown tones, cream tones, grey tones)

Please let me know if you would be interested. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Give it time Jennifer. I'm sure there are more than a few people in your area that could benefit from get-togethers of this type. Perhaps changing the title to Lighting GTG. Lighting Study Group sounds a bit dry.

Enjoy!

Sounds awesome if I were in Austin. Good luck with the recruiting. The thing I like about this idea is that it's an extended process, not just an afternoon of messing around.

Thanks Ken and Audrey. I''ll change the title and see if that helps.

I have attended a 1 day lighting workshop in the past but it was very generalized and seemed to promote products more than anything. I did not really feel I walked away with much from it (except a little lighter in the pocket).

I want to turn this on it's head and make it something where everyone gets a hands on approach and truely learns how to take a vision/theme and turn it into an incredible image. Figure it would be a great way to meet new friends, share ideas, learn through continued skill building and teamwork.

Yeah! I am excited David and Dan. Sorry for the late reply. Spent the past two days packing and getting the boys registered for school. I should have internet connection again by next weekend. I will not have access this week. Time Warner screwed up the installation date (today) and now we are hostage to them showing up this coming Friday.
