Ok, I just got some AB800s and bought a speedring to fit the Photoflex softbox I have, but the first pics I took this is what I got.

I'm guessing it was the angle I had the softbox at? Or maybe it's the baffle inside, at least I guess that's what it's called. It looks like this:

Should I remove that inside panel? The softbox is a medium size and what a booger it was getting it attached to the speedring!

Your sync speed is too high. Drop your shutter speed to 1/250, then 1/200, 1/160.

Sonny likely nailed it. I did some experimenting with my lights and you see that when you push your sync speeds.

I believe the sync speed for your 5D II is either 1/200, or 1/250. If you go above that, you'll catch the shutter in your exposure, which is what happened (since you were at 1/400). As the others mentioned, you need to stay at, or below, your shutter sync speed.

Yep, his elbow was always in shadow and I was getting really annoyed. My shutter speed was set much higher than the sync speed. Hopefully you figure this out. (Don't worry, I felt like enough of an idiot to cover both of us).
