What are you trying to accomplish as far as lighting?

And what exactly is Flash Exp Comp? I am guessing flash exposure compensation, but not sure what you mean by that.

Finally, what design is the dish and what light source are you using wiht it?

Yes flash exposure compensation. Was just testing it out...not sure what I was going for.

It's a 18" dish with a canon speed light hitting a 4.5" convex mirror.

Thanks

Just trying to see how far itnshouldnbe from subjects really. I had itnabout 2 feet. But didn't seem strong enough with out turning the FEC upnto plus 2

The main issue in these photos is separation from the BG. You need another light.

why do you feel need of even talking about any kind of compensation and what it has to do with any kind of modifier you using?

Your ttl cant work it out? Or you maxing out power and need to fool camera into something?

Switch to M mode and work it out, then...

thanks im in M mode, but the TTL seems to be too low. not enough light. so I used the COMP to brighten the flash i was getting.

maybe i had the dish too far, it was approx 3' away

In M mode there is no compensation of flash. You can not push flash further - meaning you need to start upping ISO or opening lens.

Its very hard to judge if your dish does what it should be overwise.

And yes, distance to dish, to get in focus of parabolic modifier (not focus of parabola. which is where light source should reside, actually :)) should be about 2.5-3.5 diameters, depending on dish, of course (some of them dont have focus at all, but then they arent what dishes sppse to be, right?)
