She is still bald but hoping USPS will deliver hair tomorrow. I am really excited to be able to practice light placement without nagging the family. The catchlights with the mannequin are not as good as human eyes but they are at least real reflections. I welcome company if anyone in the Austin area would like to stop by some time. I have been looking for a girl just like that. I am ashamed to show the wig head I have been using.

It took a while to find one that was reasonable in price and decent quality. My hairdressing skills are lacking so I hope the wig is not too scary. Really wanted to find one with the bust for better realism.

The post processing looks a tad bit overdone. The whites of the eyes makes them look fake.

Yeah... I got a little crazy with the skin smoothing and makeup.
My son came home and freaked - insisted I put clothes on her right away (he is 12). Thank goodness she was not a full-sized naked mannequin. Not sure if he would have made it all the way in the house. IMG_6608-Edit-1024.jpg by princer7, on Flickr

Thank you Jay and Ivy. I received the grid for the beauty dish yesterday and was blown away with how much it changes the light from the shot posted.

I picked her up off eBay from citidisplays. Here is the link to the auction. I opted to make an offer for $42 which was accepted. Shipping was $14.95. Wigs are separate but the seller does offer them for sale as well.

Thinks to self:
"hmm..if I had room, I can use this as practice for shooting people...then I can buy lights and try different shadings, of course, that would require a softbox, and then I'd have to buy.......just so I can get better, of course."
Yeah, I'd be sleeping on my couch for days once SO would see the bills.

It looks like they modeled her neck after Rachel Maddow's (it looks long in the 1st pic). Maybe a turtle neck would be best. Seriously though, good luck. That sounds like a pretty reasonable investment, if it works for you.

Hmmm, my daughter would probably like the idea instead of making her stand there all the time. Maybe if I worked it right I could make it out as a birthday present to her that way. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
