Complete Off Camera Flash Kit for $140 - 11-03-2011, 06:40 PM

So for a whopping $140.63 +shipping you can get you a complete wireless Off Camera Flash setup!

This is the flash I started out with and still have by the way and it works great. There isn't any fancy LCD displays or motorized zoom features on the flash but it works great for OCF since its full manual, no ettl and is very inexpensive.

The triggers and light stand kit are not the top of the line products BUT they do work and will definitely do the trick if you're looking to start out with the least amount of money out of pocket as necessary.

So now there is NO excuse as to why you haven't gotten into Off Camera Flash.. It "costing too much money" is no longer an excuse.

Vivitar 285HV Flash
The built-in variable power of the Vivitar 285HV auto professional flash provides you with fill flash and the ability to shoot properly exposed rapid-sequence pictures. This vertical bounce flash gives your photographs soft, professional lighting. The four f-stops give you control over the flash distance range and the depth of field, while the auto Thyristor circuitry allows for a faster recycling time as well as more flashes per set of batteries.

CowboyStudio NPT-04, 4 Channel Wireless Hot Shoe Flash Trigger/Receiver
This set is designed for photographic studio and on-location work to trigger various flash lights. The transmitter is attached on the hot shoe of the camera while the receiver is plugged into the studio flash. Each receiver works with one studio flash. Additional receivers are available to purchase .

-------------------------------------------

CowboyStudio Single Flash Stand Kit
This kit includes all the basics for on-the-go photography.

The adapter provides you with full control for the positioning your flash using the easy to adjust wingnuts. With the built-in umbrella holder at the base, you can have portable studio lighting without the hassle.

The translucent umbrella is a great addition to your studio setup. This umbrella works well to diffuse the light from any flash, creating a soft even light for your subject. The lack of a black backing gives this umbrella the ability to flash through the umbrella if needed and simulate the effects of a softbox. Portability is a plus for location shots. This size is good for head shots and small to medium sized products.

The light stand is perfect for the studio photographer. Made from strong aluminum alloy, it can be used with reflectors, boom stands, strobe flash lights, and backgrounds.

I have been using that same trigger for a while now, and - provided that you have good batteries in it, it has never failed me. When the batteries start getting low, it's hit or miss - but fresh batteries is a simple and easy fix.

Just a tip - when the batteries are getting low, it will still light up like it's getting a signal (because it is), but it isn't enough to fire the flash. If you start getting miss-fires, just put fresh batteries in. The little LED indicator is not a good indicator of battery power (just confirmation that you're on the right channel). Miss-fire = dead batteries. Simple as that.

Hahahaa....
That's the exact same set-up I have except with a Yongnuo 560 speedlite.

I have two of those CowboyStudio NPT-04 for my YN560 and SB800.
You do have to use alkaline batteries on these wireless receivers because rechargeable will give you the problems jeeper mentioned.

Great deal for a beginner or budget friendly strobist!!

The cowboy triggers can't use rechargable? That seems strange. I was thinking about the Cactus ones (although the cowboy are cheaper) and now wonder if they require regular batteries as well...

I am wanting for my little G11 to go wireless and still stay small ;)

You can use rechargeable, just when the power is low, there will be misfires because the battery indicator isn't 100% accurate. Probably true of alkaline batteries too. If you always carry spare batteries, this shouldn't be a problem.

And Abel, you are not helping with my spending practices! This seems like a great deal. Y'all really want to suck me into OCF.

The Yongnuo is $20 cheaper and I think gives you more control. I just bought a pair for location work.

I use a couple of Yongnuo YN-560s along with my SB-600. The real upside to the YN-560 (in addition to it's broad and fine flash power control) is it's very sensitive built-in photo trigger. It will trigger at decent distances even in the brightest of sunlight. I have a phottix strato remote set and at the moment I only have 1 receiver so I'll often use the receiver to trigger one flash and the photocell trigger to set off one or both of the 560's. There have been times where I had a TTL cord on top of the phottix transmitter so I was triggering one flash with the radio trigger, one with the TTL cord and one with the photocell trigger.
