Does anyone own the PW Flex tt5 for Canon? I think I'm going to get it. From what I'm reading you can push the x-sync of your camera up a bit. Some post are saying 1/320 with the 5DII and up to 1/1000 with the 7D.

Well, I got the Flex tt5 and right out of the box without any fine tuning my new x-sync speed on my 5Dm2 is 1/250 and on my 7D it went to 1/500 and this was tested with a PlusII on 580EXII and a PlusII Alien Bee AB800, both gave me the same results.

For any sports or action shooter this can be good. I'm very pleased. Here is a crappy picture (full frame) of my 7D at 1/500 with an AB800 left behind camera.

Yes...I use Hypersync - 01-30-2012, 01:34 AM

I use hypersync with my Canon t1i... I can sync the flash all the way to 1/4000.
The cover photo on my web site was taken at 3:00 PM on a clear sunny day. The statue is at the entry to the old Union Station in Tacoma WA. The photo was taken at 1/1250 aperture 4.5 ISO 100. I was able to make it look as if it was a night shot, with a dramatic stage lighting look. If you look through the photo's in the Elma Fair tab you will see portraits that were shot the same way. Look at the second photo in the Elma Fair / Bunk House Tab... The gal with the horse came out very nice... note this was with full daylight ambient light in the barn. Also look at the Rain Forest tab...go to the end of the photos in the line up. The flowers that appear to be in the dark, were shot in full sun light.
To see photo's ...... RicksCanvas.com
The photo's, "It's all in the Lighting", tab were all Hypersync, with a comparison photo just using the existing ambient lighting. Let me know what you think...

Welcome to Pixtus ...

I like your shots, you have a unique style.

Yes, I'm really digging this hypersync technology. I'm shooting my 5D2 at 1/320 and I really think I can get 1/500. With my 7D I'm getting 1/1000 easy and I'm sure I can push that higher.

Here is a shot from this weekend, the lighting sucks ... he actually jumped over the light. This was my 5D2 at 1/320

So what max speeds have you been able to achieve with the AB's then. I think this is pretty cool.

with the alien bees you are gonna be hard pressed to have anything effective above 1/1250, only because of the t.5 power curve

Actually I'm getting same results with both speedlights and AB's

7D 1/1000 clean - 1/1250 very small shading on bottom, not noticeable with ambient mix.

5D2 1/320clean - 1/500 very small shading on bottom, not noticeable with ambient mix.

Nice to know.
I was looking at new getting new triggers at some point. I'm switching over from ABs to Photogenics so it would be cool to test those also if I go that route for triggers.

Rick, Have you adjusted the hypersync timing manually or are you letting the Flex do it automatically?

I did not do any programing of the FlexTT5 other than default settings, firm ware update, etc... I did make sure I selected the model of my camera from the drop down tab in the pocket wizard utility. Other than that I have not made any adjustments manually in the utility. It worked great without any adjustments, even at the limit of 1/4000 I did not get any banding. I have four FlexTT5, and set them all the same. Only problem I have had was they lost the communication/settings between them one time in the field. Not sure if I got two of them too close together, or touched the antenna to the metal tripod, or interference from one of the three 580EX flash heads. I was not using the fabric shield or the shoe that came with the flex units. I was using a flash extension cord to separate the FlexTT5 units away from the flash head by at least two feet. Needless to say, it lost the settings and started banding real bad at hypersync speeds. Since then I always take my laptop with me, just in case I need to go in and reset/reprogram them for my camera model. It was a long way home to my desk top computer. So I will not make that mistake again.

I did not adjust the slider but I did move it down to a number 5 ... 10 is fast (no hypersync) 1 is slow (you will start to see front curtain on top of your frame)
