Light Meter - 03-26-2005, 09:51 PM

I'm in the market for a new light meter and juggling between selecting a Minolta or Sekonic. Anyone with opinions or experience with either of these? The one I'm looking at is Sekonic L-358 (see photo). I'd like the one a step above it that includes a spot meter, but it's a bit more expensive.

Hey Jeff...I've shot with the Sekonic L-358 and I think it's an excellent meter. There were 2 of us shooting (one with a D70 and one with a 20D) and we could set the meter for 2 different ISOs because the D70 can't go below 200. With the push of a button we could easily see what each of our apertures needed to be.

If/when I get a studio setup I will be getting a Sekonic.

I don't have any experience with the Minolta so I can't compare the two.

Cool, thanks! My old meter is ready for the trash - old dial type. I haven't used one for a while and have relied on my eye and the camera's built in but it's time to get back to metering in some of the things I'm doing and I have been researching and the Sekonic seems like a good unit in it's price range.

I shot with my friend's Sekonic again today and that thing is a dream. Super easy to use and spot on for exposures. After I post process some of the photos I'll post them to see what y'all think.

nice idea Jeff, glad you found a meter. I've been using a Minolta with similar features and love it, but I like what this one does.....I may upgrade later this year
