flash suggestions - 04-14-2005, 02:39 PM

I'll be shooting a mexican heritage celebration for my school over the next month. Most of the shooting will be done indoors. A lot of the shots will be in the auditorium too. I'll probably be using my D70 and N80 most of the time. I'm considering the SB-600 at the moment. I've heard so many good things about the SB-800 though. Any suggestions on any other nikon flashes?

Thanks,
Jon

Those are the only two Nikon models you want to consider for the D70, none of the older models support iTTL.

You might want to consider the lastest Sigma flashes, which are iTTL-compatible. I think Metz also has a model or two but will likely be even more expensive than the Nikon models.

I personally think the SB-800 is a great flash, in fact I just bought my second one recently.

I was stuck for the longest time between the sb800 or 600. I opted for the 800 because at the time it came with a rebate(50), and it also comes with a diffuser($20). For the extra power and the feature to use it as a master slave, made the price difference worth it.

Just remember, you can always cut down the light output, but there is no way to add it.

I would go with the 800, I have a friend in Norway that love his and from the images he has sent me it does a very good job all around.

go with the SB-800. I had a Sigma EGSuper and it doesn't work as well with the D70 even though the one I have for the N80 works fine. If you are doing a lot of indoor shooting, you will realy need the higher output. I just shot a high school talent show with my D70 and was worried about lighting but the shots were good and the batteries gave me a lot of flashes (over 300)
