Makeshift diffuser - 04-14-2005, 09:25 PM

OK...so my first order from B&H wasn't for a big ticket item - it was for a Stofen Omnibounce. I paid nearly as much for 2nd day UPS as for the item itself - and it didn't arrive on time! Ordered it on Monday - it'll be delivered tomorrow! I leave tomorrow morning! :x :x :x :x

Question here is: what can I use as a makeshift diffuser for my 580ex? Would a kleenex held in place with a rubberband work? I want to use it mostly for fill flash outdoors.

Fashion something cut out of a gallon size plastic milk or water jug and some rubber bands.

Before I got my bouncer and softbox I use a strip of white paper and a rubber band. Cut the paper about he same width as the flash on the ends and a little wider in the middle, left it 11 inches in length. Then just rubber banded it to the flash. It worked out ok..

I have see many different things used, plastic milk bottles, plastic cups and other items.

What every you use I really don't think you want it to touch the front of the flash, there is a lot of heat there, although it is there for a very short time it is still very hot.
