What attachments do u guys prefer on you external flashes?

I have a Sto-Fen Omnibounce, a Lumiquest Mini Soft Box and a Lumiquest Pocket Bouncer

The Sto-Fen Omnibounce is a little less intimidating by others while out in public etc. the other two attachments are kind of big and make me stick out like a sore thumb so to speak. Well even more so then normal! Hehe

I need to experiment more with each and see which works best in what condition etc.

Lemme here what you guys use and prefer.

Sto-Fen Omnibounce

I found myself at various car shows taking pictures of the model there with the Stofen being of little or no use since there is nothing to bounce off of, and the light being a bit harsh at times using it directly. With the Promax softbox the pictures looked great, but the pure size of the softbox was a bit intimidating to them, I just picked up the mini one and love the size with similar performance.

So what you're saying is when working with models is that its not the size of your attachment that counts but how you use it...

I use the stofen and omnibounce for general flash work and a Better Beamer for fill flash on wildlife shots.

Looks interesting and not too expensive. Have you used it? Any photos to show?

I occasionally use the diffusion dome that came with the SB-800. It's not bad if you want to get lots of bounce and your subject isn't too close, but light directly from the flash is still pretty harsh and I've also found that the D70 + SB-800 is more likely to underexpose with the dome on. Still, it is small and convenient, only takes a couple of seconds to attach and is relatively unobtrusive.

I also have the Lumiquest ProMax system and I like it quite a bit. It seems to produce softer light than the diffusion dome plus you have the flexibility of using ceiling bounce or not depending on the situation. The downside is that it takes a bit more time to set up, is bulkier, and somewhat dorky looking. :)

Yeah, not to mention the teasing I get when whipping out all this complicated photo gear to take a few snapshots at a family gathering... although they're getting used to it by now.

I've had the lightsphere for three weeks now. Used it at a wedding on the sb28. Results are amazing. Although it is dorky looking also.

I knows what you mean. But as the old country ditty might go; "I don't care any more!....."
When I walk around with my Canon mounted on my Custom Bracket, with my flash unit perched on top, and the coiled mess of wires running between the two and to my flash battery pack. I know it looks dorky to the point and shooters, but, I can sit back and smile while they're working their buns off in PSE trying to get the red[eye out of all of their photo treasures.

It all depends on where I am shooting. - 01-29-2005, 03:12 PM

I would say I use the Omni-bounce the most, but if there is nothing to bounce off of then I will go the the Lumi Quest Softbox.
I have found I do not need to raise the flash up when using the Omni and can shoot it straight on, this does help to soften the light.
If I have a nice white 9 foot ceiling and doing close work I will go with he 80/20 it does a very nice job for this type of shooting.
I also put in the gold reflector in the 80/20 at times to warm things up a lot.

I use the Lumiquest bounce for most events if I can't bounce off of a white ceiling. Just got an Omnibounce and anxious to try it out in places like a brides dressing room.

Does any one use two flashes like a 550 and 420 for group shots? How are you setting up? Is it mobile?
