Ok, I have no idea what I am getting into but I just purchased a 580EX online today. I am a major fan of natural lighting but felt that I needed at add this to my arsenal for those tricky situations. If anybody has any pointers or links to a good learning source, it would be greatly appreciated. I don't wont this thing to arrive and go ( in the voice of Hank Hill) "What tha hell?".

Get a sto-fen omnibounce for it - and play with it a lot! It's a complex beast!

Yeah I got one shipping with it also. AND! (this is the reason why I hate having a day off and being lazy) I just ordered a 15mm 2.8 fisheye. Now that I think I can handle that one! Abel convinced me to do it!

Well, if you really feel that bad about it, when it arrives, call me and I'll just permanently borrow it from you!

I had been comtiplating a macro. But since I am geared towards concert photography, all the others have to wait in line.

This is an excellent flash.
Just be advised that you may need to increase the exposure on the flash about 2/3 stop. If you do find this necessary, with your camera, it is somewhat the norm, and there is nothing wrong with the flash or your camera!

I've never noticed that - and I use the Omnibounce on it. I set my camera for AV and set the flash at either +0 or sometimes -1/3. I shoot raw and I'd rather have it under exposed than over exposed.

Yup, I am quite aware of that. I guess I will send in my rebates for my 70-200mm 2.8L IS and my new printer when I get those in. Shoot, with as many rebates that I will be getting back from canon, The lens will end up being half price! Too funny:)
