Analog vs. Digital Light Meter - 06-14-2005, 10:59 AM

I need to send in my Gossen Luna-Pro F light meter for repair. The estimated repair is $97.00. But when checking their web site I found out they are offering a trade-in program. For $160 I can get the Luna-Pro Digital F. I've been very happy with the analog null metering system, and I'm not sure how I will like the digital readout. I personally don't think digital is always better. Are there any advantages to the Digital model? Does anyone have a preference of digital over analog? why? Thanks for any input.

i find i can get more accurate readings with my pentax digital spot compared to my gossen analog... no more guessing - is that 11-1/3 or 11-2/3!

Andrew,

What type of photography do you you focus on? The reason I ask, is that I am thinking about getting a light meter (I do a lot of freelance stuff) and wnat to make sure that i get good use

I mainly do landscape and cityscapes. But I'm finding a lot of interest in portraiture. I really like the convenience of a hand held meter. I get much better results than just using a histogram to judge tonal ranges. The Gossen Luna-Pro F is the only meter I have used for any period of time. It is very accurate and quick and easy to use. (Although at times a true 1 degree spot meter would be useful.)
