Right, similar to a zoom lens. No necessarily a fill light, but just a wider spread.

Jordan, thanks for the reply about the diffuser actually locking it out and not allowing override. It would be nice if it drove it to the widest but still allowed one to manually zoom WITH the diffuser on. Oh well...

Yeah, that is a bummer. That is one of the reasons I prefer the Lumi Quest mini-softbox. The flash has no idea that I'm using it.

But with the softbox, you won't really get this kind of effect...

same reason that the diffuser "locks" the zoom to it's widest. What is the point of zooming, if as soon as the light is to the end of the device, you just end up spreading it anyway? Maybe I don't understand the purpose that the diffuser would serve in this application, or why you would want it?
