RAW mode still shoots jpg with flash - 12-07-2007, 08:27 AM

Ok, I shoot in RAW mode (on my Canon XT) and before I got my 580EX II I almost never used the on-camera flash. Now that I use flash more often I'm noticing that ALL my photos shot with flash are turning up as JPGs and not RAW. WTF? Anyone know why this is happening?

Either you've accidentally changed your menu from Raw to jpeg or You are shooting with the camera in one of the Basic modes, ie., Green box, Portrait, Landscape, sports or A-dep (if you have A-dep). In any of the basic modes the camera defaults to jpegs and automatic control of your flash.

Look at the functionality table in the back of your manual for insight into which mode (s) to use and double check your RAW settings.

That's probably it. I use M most of the time, but I just got the flash so I've been defaulting to basic modes while using it. That clears that up.
