Morris Universal Infra-red Sender? - 05-03-2008, 11:02 PM

Has any one heard of this brand of sender (transmitter)? I'm purchasing some first time studio equipment (just getting started) and wanted to use my 580EX and 420EX with umbrellas. Not enough cash the buy something more elaborate as this time. Unable to get with B&H at this time of the night. Also not much info from Morris Co. either. Here is the B&H link.

Would really appreciate some input from someone more experienced.

Canon 40D, Canon 28-135, Tamron 24-70, Tamron 75-300, Speedlite 580EX, 420EX

It is basically a small hot shoe mount flash unit with a red filter over the flash tube. It emits enough infrared light to trigger an optical slave (sold separately), but not enough visible light to affect the image. These were quite popular before radio triggers.

Don, thanks for the reply. Do you think I should take a chance on buying a set for my needs. I couldn't find anything that generally stated if these were good or bad or would work. I just wanted something to start with.

Thanks again,
CTB

Just read the 4-Channel Wireless Flash Trigger V2s post again. Might try these first to save a little money until more cash is available.

I think I would buy a set of the Chinese radio slaves. A transmitter and receiver are around $35.00 with shipping. These are sometimes called e-Bay triggers also since they are found on e-Bay. I use them in my studio and I will get an occasional mis-fire, especially if the transmitter has slipped a bit in the hot shoe. They don't have a tremendous range, but neither does the infrared transmitter. Canon also makes an infrared transmitter that will work in ettl mode, but it is a bit pricey. The only problem with ettl is that each flash must "see" the transmitter or another flash that "sees" the transmitter.

4-Channel Wireless Flash Trigger V2s is on it's way from China. Purchased it Tuesday night.

Wish me luck!
