Batery for Photogenic - 03-03-2009, 08:17 PM

I understand some digital strobes are finicky when it comes to battery power. Can anyone recommend a battery pack that will work with the Photogenic PL1250DR PL2 500Ws head?

THANKS!

Terry

I don't know about the photogenic stobes, but the Vagabond II doesn't work with most digital stobes. Something about the constant level of power required by the digital stobes. I know hensel makes a battery pack for their stobes

I have a Tronnix Explorer XT and about 8 Photogenic 1250DR's and 2 Photogenic 1500SL's and according to the Tronnix Website (where they do LIVE testing with most lighting systems) this is what they had to say:

•How do I know if my strobe or powerpack is compatible with the Explorer XT? Why not all strobes and powerpacks are compatible with the Explorer XT?
The Explorer XT is compatible to more digital strobes than the Explorer 1200 due to its increased power rating. However, we cannot guarantee the compatibility to all strobes and power packs in the market due to the differences in the design or make of strobes and power packs of other brands. For analog flash, this is not a problem and can tolerate the voltage drop. For digital flash units, this will probably cause it to go on reset and return all its settings to the power up stage. Though this is not damaging to your flash or to the Explorer XT, but it will just not work properly.

This is why I have the Photogenic 1500SL's. I would try my 1250DR's, but I'm too "chickensh!t".

So Mark if I understand correctly, it's not as much of an issue damaging the strobe but rather the strobe just won't work properly. Correct? I have seen Elinchrom's work with the Explorer XT without incident. Can't remember if it was the 600 Rx or the 300 Rx.
