What will these Radio Popper units do that the new Pocket Wizard TTL units won't do? I realize that they're less expensive, but, from a capability standpoint, it seems to me that they're about the same.

One thing I like about the new Pocket Wizards is that you can mount the trigger to your camera, AND it has a built in hot shoe that will allow you to still mount the flash to the camera, too. Do the Radio Poppers do that? Just curious..... the pricing on the Radio Poppers makes me want to consider switching systems.

No, the RPs do not have hotshoes.. and the JrXs have similar abilities to the old PWs. The "studio" version of the JrXs do have one thing any version of PW don't: the ability to control AlienBees/White Lightning lights remotely.

Personally, I don't have PWs currently.. and the cheaper solution I have is showing its age and I don't trust them in the field where they get bounced around anymore.. so I need a new solution. I'm going with the JrXs.... if they ever freakin make it out.

You need at least one transmitter and receiver. For additional flashes (second, third, etc), you can either purchase additional JrX receivers or go with optical triggers (sensors that have hotshoes on them and will trigger the flash when it "sees" another flash).

I am going to go with additional JrX receivers because the optical triggers are unreliable in bright light and require a line of sight to work (meaning you can't hide one behind a tree or something)...

From what I've been reading the Radio Popper units will work. The PW TTL units don't seem to have the range or be as easy to use. Maybe the 2nd generation of the PW units will be better.

The Radio Poppers have better range and from what I've read will be easier to get them to work.

I was excited about the PW solution, I liked the idea hot shoe vs retransmitting light but for now the Radio Poppers seem to be the winner.
