10D Pop Up Flash Issue - 10-10-2005, 10:48 PM

Hey.. I've been having trouble with the pop up flash on the 10D .. I rarely use it, of course, but every now and then I'll pop it up for a quick snapshot... anyway, tonight it is refusing to go back down and stay down... any advice?

By the way, was able to solve this by holding the pop up flash down and hitting the button to pop it up while I did so... it made an awful series of mechanical clicks and gave me an "error 05" on the screen, but it stayed down.

Haven't had the courage to see if it will come back up.. for as little as I use it, I don't know that I care since everything else seems to be working.

I had a problem on a few occasions with the pop-up flash. The button stuck. It got pressed down too far and the edge got caught on the opening, so when I tried to close the flash it came up again and again. Make sure that it's free and not getting snagged, and above all, is actually working. the error 5 is usually when you press the button and hold the flash down a few times. But that's my experience with that quirky, and annoying, yet wonderful Canon 10D.

Try removing the batteries and lens and reset.

I had the same problem with mine and I had it repaired when I sent it in to the factory for service.
After awhile it got to the point where it would pop up even if the flash was not required.
I did the same thing you did and dm_tinstall suggested.
