Here are a couple more shots with the 300. Comments requested.

Just some little brown grasshopper that lit on an old piece of rusty pipe.


Love the way he is camouflaged. If I hadn't seen him/her land, I wouldn't have known he/she was there.

These are pretty nice, Tom. I use a 300 with 80mm of extension for critters that won't let me get close: feeding butterflies and dragonflies in the heat of the day. Works pretty well. With the lens at furthest focus, I get 1/4 lifesize from about 5' and focused all the way in, I get about 1/2 lifesize at 3'. Of course, I hafta use a tripod and cable release cuz it's a beast to handhold.

I recognize these guys! These are good with that 300 macro lens! I got to work on one like in #2 with my 105 earlier this year...man do they have a weird eyeball. Good stuff Tom! Keep practicing... I love using my 75-300 with the 25 mm tube on subjects like this...they never even know I'm in the area shooting the photos!
