Copying Jims shell idea - kinda - 01-16-2010, 09:35 AM

I started out thinking I would try shooting my shells with a multiple light setup on a reflective black plexi. But after looking at them I decided to try a more abstract narrow DOF view. Was having trouble balancing my lighting output so I gave up for now and these are all shot with a combination of window light & dining room chandelier.

To properly expose the shot with the black background I shot these at 1 2/3 stop under the meter reading. The first 3 below are f5.6 with shutter speeds from 1.3 to 2 seconds. #4 & 5 are shot at 1:1 magnification with my Sigma 105mm (#4 - f20, 30 sec., #5 - f16, 25 seconds). #6 was a test to see if I could get a sharp result with my Tamron 1.4 tc added at max magnification (f16, 30 sec.).

I running out of macro subjects to shoot. I'm ready for spring to bring back the flowers & bugs.

Thanks Felix. I have no idea what kind of shells these are. I've just picked up few here & there over the years because they looked cool.

My neighbor is a sea shell collector, I'm shooting some of the ones he has picked up, and as far as ID of them I have no clue.
