You're going to love that little lens! I've had mine since '95. I just bought a Tamron 180/3.5 so it's going to get some rest this year but no way I'd ever sell the little darlin'. Looks like you were shooting these wide open because of the DOF. I like the second photo best. Wish they were bigger so I could see more of the detail.

oh I have fallen in love with it already. the original shots are much larger, I was having trouble resizing them so they would post. what settings should I use to resize and still maintain good resolution?

Very nice colors in these images, Clint - looks like the images are a little soft (probably due to the resizing). When resize my image for the web display, I resize to around 800 pixels on the longest side.
