Not an expert so I don't offer much of antyhing, however it looks like it was not a light friendly day.

oh no the light was fine, i was shooting wide open at about 1/350ish...some a little slower, some a little faster.

I think you'll quickly learn that as you increase magnification the DOF really drops as these show. If that was your goal these are fine. I use the DOF preview button on my camera as much as the shutter release to check the DOF and BG on almost every shot. I like to shoot wide open too!

well that was my goal. in shooting macro flowers I like shooting wide open to give it more of an ethereal look. no need to always have hard sharp lines.
