Critique: NC:

Only in the last week have a seen these out and about. Bugguide.net says this about it: Purple & Yellow Robber Fly - Mallophora fautrix. Although I didn't seen any purple. I saw yellow and black.

I've seen a few of these guys and they look black and yellow to me too..

Image #3 actually shows some purple in the eyes. Granted, it's so dark it's almost black. This is a nice specimen.

Ok, looks like Kenn'y eyes are either better than ours (at least better than mine), or he is making up the purple eye color, or he is adding something in his coffee and it's not cream and/or sugar. Nice robber fly image, Garret

Thanks John and Ken. #3 was take at 6:50am (give or take a few minutes). The sun was very very low in the sky and I'm fairly positive the sun's light was hitting the front element, if not more thus causing a different coloring. The others were taken closer to mid day or after.
