DCR-150 or DCR-250 - 11-14-2011, 07:15 AM

Critique: NC:

Which would be better ,,,,,,,A cropped 150 or an uncropped 250.I haven't looked at this comparison but did notice the increased Diopter value of the 250 seemed to be a little hazy/milky.I don't know if this can be corrected in photoshop or not.Whatcha think?

You're looking for your S3IS, correct?

I'm using a Opteka 10X Diopter on my S2IS. I tell ya what, at the very very center of the image it's "good enough" but beyond that (and I'm talking 3/4 of the image) it's just too soft. I highly suggest if you aren't going to go the DSLR route, put out on a quality close up filter such as the Canon 250D (meant for the short mm lengths).

Canon LAH-DC20 Conversion Lens Adapter (LA-DC58E) and Hood (LH-DC40) Set for the S5 IS, S3 IS & S2 IS Digital Camera Canon LAH-DC20 Conversion Lens Adapter (LA-DC58E) and Hood (LH-DC40) Set for the S5 IS, S3 IS & S2 IS Digital Camera
. I use this setup on my S2 IS.

I have a
Opteka 10x Close Up Filter Opteka 10x Close Up Filter
and its crap except in the very middle of the image.

The Canon 250D Close Up Filter 58mm is a much better option. It's hard to find in stock, period. But B&H has it in stock in the 52mm flavor.

If you get a step down ring from 58-52 such as this one you can get the Canon 250D CUF in the 52mm thread and screw it onto the filter adapter I linked to above.

Hope that helps. By the way, I'm using the Canon 500D close up filter and it's fantastic, I highly doubt the 250D would be any less.

Oh, and if you are going to go through B&H or Amazon, I know Abel would appreciate it if you went through the portals provided on the main page or through the "Support Pixtus" link in the Navbar :D

Thanks Garret,I already have both the Raynox 150 ,250,lens adaptor and mating ring.I also have male-male 49 to 55 coupler to hang a +21 reversed 50mm on the end of one of the above. The hand held test setup looked pretty good.

I thought I had a sample of both but didn't this is the 150

This a reversed 50mm and a Raynox 150(+3 Diopter) and of course the camera lens.Settings are aperature priority,f8,ISO 100,manual focus.I ordered an adaptor off of e bay.I was holding this marriage together by hand for testing,,,,,,,,smile......No Post processing except cropped and resized, this grid is 1/8th inch separation(that would make this view 3/8th's inches wide I guess) ball point pen lines on white paper.Working distance is about 1 1/2 inches.I don't recall if I used the flash or my CFL desk lamp

The 50mm lens setting,,,,infinity focus and f1.7(wide open),someone on another forum said a reversed 50mm was about +20 Diopters.I don't know if that is correct.
