I found this cicada coming out of its shell (or whatever the correct term) yesterday. Thought it was pretty interesting to see.

Hi Texentric,
I think it must have taken about an hour or maybe a little less. I first saw it when just the head was coming out. I checked back several times and got photos. I'm not sure how long it had been out completely when I went back for the last photo.

Ryan - Yep. They do make a ton of noise and some live underground for 17 years. I found a website with a bit of information on cicadas.
