Thanks Chris. These flowers are so small they could be covered by a dime.

Looking good Bob!

Btw, I'm thinking about getting the Sigma 150mm Macro here pretty soon.

Thanks Elan. I would really like the extra reach, but I think the lens extends to get 1:1.
I think that would bug me.

It doesn't extend. Neither does the Nikon 105mm VR ($200 more). Do you see the VR is useful for macro?

I would spring for the Nikon. Your right, it does not extend. I went back and reread the report that I had seen on PhotoZone, for the Canon copy. Now I remember what turned me off about the Sigma.... To get 1:1 you drop focal lenght, and loose 1-1/2 to 2 stops of speed. I also think the VR on the Nikon can be helpfull, how much, I don't know. If the Nikon's AF works as good as my 100 macro, with IS or VS, it would make a nice indoor sports lens. It would have been really handy at the Drag Race tonight also.

BTW.... My Canon 85mm f1.8 kicked A** at the races, tonight after dark.

Okay, good observation. I did a little research today and looks like the Nikon is the same way -- slows down to f/4.8 at 1:1. So I'm still leaning towards the Sigma for the extra range, especially since I already have the 70-200 VR to cover other activities. Incidentally, I can slap a 6T on the 70-200 and get a pretty decent macro result with AF & VR intact. Here's an example:

The only problem is that it weighs a ton and scares the little children away. So this macro purchase is also meant to provide me with a mid-size tele to use as a walkaround. The next option is to pick up a cheap, MF micro at ebay and to get the new Tokina 50-135/2.8 as my smaller tele... It just never ends!

Post your 85/1.8 shots. I want to see them.

Looking forward to it. Btw, I got a museum membership now, so the butterfly center is only $4 a head. We need to go soon, maybe when I get the macro.

Forgot.. I picked up a 50/1.8 MF pancake, less than 1" thick! I'll email you a shot when I get it.
