I need to go out more often and shoot macro since these are all from August this year (the month I got the lens, Tamron 90 2.8)

Very nice. Go out a lot more with that lens.

Great lighting on #3 and good subject. When you come across situations like #4...take some time to try different angles since you can sometimes get natural difraction subjects in focus...or you may try placing "something" behind it to refract. Nice shooting!

It was still raining when I took that 4th photo so I didn't really thought about going around, but here's the same droplet but I was trying to focus on whats being diffracted.

another addition, but from a reversed lens to achieve this kind of macro.

Thanks for the advice and comments everyone.

macro often seems to be about how many hairs you can count on a fly's face, and as such it becomes very technical. when i surf internet macro forums i see a lot of images i'd expect to find in a field guide to bugs.

these are different. these are more like what i'd expect to see in smithsonian or national geographic! the detail is great, but there's an artfullness about the compositions, colors, and processing that sets them apart. nice work!

Impressive shots. 1 & 3 are my favorites from the original series, also the last shot is very good. So what is that pink stuff?
