Aggie Gardens fauna - 09-25-2008, 10:17 AM

Shot these at Aggie Gardens late yesterday. Had rained during the day, so it was overcast and late. There wasn't much ambient exposure to be had, so I just blasted away--more or less--with flash. Most all are F9-F11, 1/250, ISO640. Thank God for Noiseware Professional. Nikon D200, Sigma 150 with a full load of tubes and 1.4x TC. Flash is a Nikon R1 wireless twinlite set on manual, one lite @ 11 o'clock on 1/4 power; the other @2:30 on 1/8 power.

#5 Tentatively ID'd as orange barred sulphur - phoebis philea

#6 Ailanthus webworm moth

#7 Different angle

Thanks for looking, comments always welcomed.

lighting is excellent. Normally I would have avoided flash but obviously there's times for it. It helps if you know what you are doing with it, as you prove here.

Beautiful work!

I'm just starting to play with flash and macro work but it can really make a difference.

Thanks Jim from North Texas. Sometimes it can make all the difference between getting detail in the shot or not. It's a struggle to do it well and consistently, but worth it IMO.
