Thanks Roy! I saw a few eastern pondhawks yesterday but it was too late in the morning to get any good shots off, but they are back!

They are my three favorite lenses to use. If my memory is right I used the Plamp on this shot with remote cable release and of course the tripod. Proper technique does help a little.
Jim, meant to ask what model Gitzo do you use? Thanks

Hey Bill, I have an extremely light tripod setup... I bought the Gitzo 1227 CF back in 2003 and got the Kirk BH-3 ball head... the entire setup weights about 4 pounds. I also replaced the standard Gitzo center column with a Kirk short post so I can go all the way to ground level with it. I use simple pipe insulation on the top portion of the legs so it doesn't hurt my shoulder when carrying it around in the field. I wanted something that I wouldn't mind carrying/using and this was the best system I could come up with. I don't leave home without it.

Thanks Tri! Those little hairs are actually little spikes they use to capture their food.
