Excellent composition, Michael! The light is very nice, as well. I love these little guys, they can be so photogenic.

An excellent capture, Michael. The lighting on this really shows off the details of the lizard's skin, and a nice soft background.

Beautiful detail along the focus plane and killer BG.... Nice work!! Looks like natural lighting to me.

Thanks everyone. We have to take the gifts as they come. I was literally walking to the truck to leave when I spotted this guy. I ran back into the house, slapped the lens on closest camera, added the ring light and ran outside. The first three shots there was no flash. For some reason the hotshoe on the DsMKII has always given me problems. I switched the flash off, adjusted the exposure and fired the last shot (above). Right after than the model ran away... I seem to get the a lot

So yes... there was a ring light on the lens but it didn't go off

Good thing you're better at adjusting the camera than I am at guessing about additional lighting!

There's this little needle thingy in the lookie see hole in the back of the camera. I try to put the needle thingy about to the little mark dealies above the bigger middle mark dealie

+1/3 to +2/3 stop works for the camera I was using. All of them seem to have wonky meters. Could just be the centered weighted averaging characteristics though. I didn't try spot metering because I didn't try spot metering
