About Me

I was exposed to a friend's Photo A Day (PAD) gallery back in January of 2004 and that prompted me to start [b]My Own Photo A Day Project[/b] as well using my old Olympus 3040z I had at the time. The PAD Project forced me to pick up my camera every single day and within about a month I had realized that my current Olympus was not going to cut it.

In February of 2004 I upgraded to a Canon G5 point and shoot which lasted me until June of the same year when I really took the plunge and sprung for a Canon 10D dslr. The new dslr really opened up a whole new world to me and right around September of 2004 I abandoned my PAD Project that had lasted about a full 9 months.

I decided that it was more important to begin to focus more on quality versus quantity from that time on. Even thought I stopped the PAD Project I don't regret the time I spent working on it. The amount of time I spent with my camera on a daily basis really helped me flatten out the learning curve in photography. It would have taken me much longer to learn what I know now if it had not been for that project.

During the time of my PAD Project, I spent a lot of time driving around Houston and surrounding areas looking for ideal shooting locations. I spent lots of time on the net researching and looking for tips on new locales that I was not aware of. The pure lack of local information is what lead me to create the forum www.HoustonPhotogs.com.

HoustonPhotogs.com was originally set up for Houston based photographers to share locations, tips, tricks etc. The intial member base quickly grew outside of our little area of Texas and began to expand to Austin and Dallas. Since the expansion was kind of out of my control I quicky adopted the domain, TexasPhotoForum.com. Expanding the smaller local Houston based forum to one that stretched state wide has been a great benefit to myself as well as many others. I have been in "Recruitment Mode" ever since we went online in December '04 and I am always looking to inform more Texas photographers about our great community.

That is how I got involved in photography and how the current forum came to be. It has now been a little almost 7 years since TexasPhotoForum first went online and man am I very impressed of what we all have accomplished!

In May of 2011 I decided to take TexasPhotoForum.com to the next level. I decided to move the site to a new domain name, combine it's sister site CaliforniaPhotoForum.com and make the site go GLOBAL! I am always looking to improve the site as a whole and this transition is the first step in many cool features to come!

Favorite Aspect of Photography

I would definitely have to say [b]Concert Photography[/b] is my favorite subject to shoot with Sports Photography being a close second. I have always been a great fan of live music in general and once I got involved in photography it was a no brainer to try to combine the two.

In May of 2004 I entered a photography contest that the Dave Matthews Band Fan Club put together which awarded 10 members Photo Credentials to an upcoming show. Forutnately I was lucky enough to win one of those 10 spots and got my very first set of credentials!

I was extremely nervous the night of the show since this was my first stab at shooting a big mainstream concert. Then to make matters even more intense, it was one of my all time favorite bands! My stomach was so queezy it is not even funny!

Ever since that first concert experience I have not been able to get my fill of shooting concerts. I really do enjoy the music and the challenge of capturing the bands intensity in my photographs.
