- About Me
- After college I ran off to Washington state and spent almost a year working minimum wage jobs so I could learn letterpress printing. I later bought a letterpress press and and printed a number of broadsheets and small books of poetry (mine and others).
I worked for 15 years in the oil fields, most of the time as a drilling foreman (offshore LA and TX, South TX high pressure gas wells, west TX, Badlands of ND -- mostly winter, and CA). I left the oilfields to work in corporate IS as a programmer for last 18 years, both direct and as a consultant. I also wrote for Visual Basic Programmer's Journal for a number of years.
I am a pure amateur at this point. I didn't get into photography until the digital age (one of the early Olympus 1.2 mp cameras in 1998 -- D-400 Zoom). It started with just snapshots, but I became more and more fascinated with those magic times when you see what others around you don't, and are sometimes able to capture it. I take thousands of photos each year, spend lots of reading magazines and books, and exhibits when possible (like the recent one of Ketchum and Porter in Ft Worth). More like an avocation than a simple hobby, as my wife will attest. I have a grown daughter and almost grown (1.5 years of college left) son. - Favorite Aspect of Photography
