Western Kingbird

This is a discussion on Western Kingbird within the Nature and Wildlife forums, part of the Showcase category; I hope I don't miss the ID on this bird again! This one looks more like the one Greg referenced ...

This one looks more like the one Greg referenced in the other thread but it doesn't have a fly!

Found this guy in Palo Duro Canyon.

Sorry bud, that's a western kingbird, and I believe they are about twice the size bigger than common flycatcher.

Roy, this image is so sharp--I love it! I can't help on the ID but I'll go along with what you call it.

They're all starting to look the same! Well at least everyone including myself knows I can't ID birds even with the books. It does look very close to my books Western Kingbird but it also looks very close to a Couch's Kingbird but they aren't supposed to be around here.
He's definately bigger than any flycather I've seen. About the size of a mockingbird I'd guess.

Thanks Daniel. I always need someone to help me out and I've got a few more birds to post that I think I know what they are...LOL!

Sandy, thanks for the comment. As soon as I got the big lens out this one decided to take another tree. At least I could see him in this one. The closer tree had a nest and it was impossible to get a clear view.

Now I gotta go change the title on this one from Brown Crested Flycatcher to Western Kingbird.

Three of those : Couch, Western and Tropical Kingbird are hard to tell apart, activity is limited by region like you said, and we got tons of W.K this time of the year. :)

I now really enjoy the iphone bird app, i can limit down to a few family on the field while shooting. Finally found me one useful thing about iPhone...LOL

Great shot Roy. I really like the composition, colors and catch light in the eye. Good work.
