Red Fox makes a visit - 08-31-2009, 07:40 AM

I just got back from the house in Marble, Colorado.
This Red Fox made a visit to the deck at about 9pm.
The light was low, and I had to shoot through the windows.
ISO 3200 Canon 40D with 17-40L and 70-200 2.8IS.

We usually get visitors. Raccoons, chipmunks, dozens of hummingbirds, and a bear once ( I now keep the .45 handy ).

I was kind of hoping the fox was there because he was afraid of a bear, but no bear showed up.

he looks very calm, and at ease on your porch. I am guessing he's gotten used to going up onto porches and getting dog/cat food and seeing people in their homes..

You can try putting food put for him and slowly approach the window and open the door. The more used to you he gets the easier it will be.

I had a Coyote become a sudo pet this way once while I was working out on a rig, he got to the point where he would hang out on the back porch with me there but wouldn't let me pet him. Given more time I believe I could have.

He/she hung around just long enough for me to change to the telephoto lens.
A couple of shots and zing, gone in a blurr.

I like foxes. One followed my son and me up a mountain in Crested Butte, CO, and couple of years ago. He stayed pretty close the whole time.
