Mercer - 08-31-2009, 02:35 PM

A group of about 35 photographers met with Kathy Adams Clark Saturday at Mercer and roamed around for 2 hours. I managed the bumble bee near Therese (not as good as hers), mating Palamedes, (shutter speed too slow), giant swallow tail, and a lonely snake (don't know what kind).

These are great! Looks like a Texas Rat Snake?

Thanks for all the kind words from everyone. Therese, I had never seen a snake there before either, but the nice thing about a big group is you have a lot of eyes looking. Had I been by myself I would never have seen it in the pine needles.

The rat snake was very cooperative...he stayed around for about 5 minutes or so and just looked at us.

Thanks for the comment.

That looks more like a Broad-banded water snake to me

Jim, I think you are right. I think one of the other photographers who knew more about snakes than anyone else there, called it a broad banded water snake. In any case, he was a good looking snake and very friendly.
