State Fair photo contest

I've entered the State Fair of Texas Photography contest each of the last 4 years - got a 3rd place my first time. Since then I have not placed until this year. I got 4th or honorable mention for a picture of a flower.

I really enjoy photography - it is my way to relax away from work. I do it for fun and maybe I'll get a little excercise while out looking for something to shoot. I've dreamed of becoming an outdoor photographer or just getting something published - just enough to buy better gear. I guess my only other hobby/vice is fishing - yep, I spend way more money and time fishing. I just went out yesterday and shot over 300 pictures but I was only happy with a couple of them. I'm still learning - my wife says I'm to critical. Some days I just want to sell the whole camera setup and buy more fishing stuff.

Funny thing is, I work for one of the largest advertising companys in the US. You'd think I could get them interested but I don't work in that department and our on-staff photographer won't give me the time of day.

That's very nice.
I might like to see it with more of a square crop than this rectangular frame. A little bit more DOF might have been nice.
Otherwise I really like it.
