I had a chance to run over there today after work. I just couldn't wait for the weekend. The hat you see in the last photo I think belongs to Patticake. Will somebody call her to make sure she didn't get eaten by an alligator!

All these were taken with the Nikon 300mm MF ED IF 4.5 lens.

Well, that's the Yellow Crowned Night Heron my friend. This bird is the main reason I went there yesterday.
They were certainly skiddish of everyone. I couldn't get close to any of them.
It might be because they just recently arrived here for the seasonal visit.
They are not used to people yet at the park.

I took that photo for you, Jim! I wanted to show you they are back. Glad you got to see some too!
For those that want to see them they are in the same spot from last year. They are on that trail between 40 acres and Elm Lake. Just listen for them and you will see.

#2 is my all time favorite also. The sun peeped out for a short time before the cold front clouds covered the sky.
It was tough lighting with all those clouds and shaded trees on the trail made it that much harder. Using a flash just gave the steel eye on all the animals.

I should mention those snakes are two different ones. They were just a few feet from each other. Maybe they were related? Are those the broad banded water snakes a few folks are seeing out there? Need ID from you snake experts please.

You need to toss your 300 f4 and use this lens only. Your last 2 posts with this lens are much better.

Less fixing in Photoshop too! Now if you asked me my favorite stationary bird lens it will always be the Nikon 300mm F4.5 ED IF lens. If you asked me my favorite action lens for birds in flight it will have to be my newest 300mm F4 AF-S. I'm very lucky to have both.
I think the 1.7tc does put a hurt on the sharpness on my par. I'm going to save my cookies for the 1.4TC. I remember how sweet it was on my 70-200mm 2.8.
Gosh, maybe I should work that lens out too soon!
