Well, we made it down to SBNWR today. Quite an adventure on the Marsh Buggy tour! Saw a lot of birds (Least & American Bitterns, Green Herons, Skimmers, Black-necked Stilts, etc.). Shooting from the buggy was like riding a mule down the Grand Canyon! They do this one weekend a year. Torrential rains limited our birding, but we had a great time anyway. The BBQ was superb, the folks were friendly and we saw a bit of the Raptor show too. This is a Hybrid Falcon (Gyr-Peregrine). He was eating his chicken leg reward for a great flight demonstration...

Very nice Bruce...riding in one of those buggies looks interesting...looks like they took you through some marshy terrain...would they stop to allow you to take pictures?

Thanks, Ron. That was the problem really. The ride was very bumpy. Like riding a mule down the Bright Angel Trail in the Grand Canyon! We were sitting on hay bales too. It was nearly impossible to shoot while moving, especially telephoto. We stopped a few times, but not for photos. It was fun anyway. Particularly interesting was how the buggy flushed out birds in front of it in the marsh. That was how we saw the Least and American Bitterns. In general, the rain limited the picture taking. At the mid point, we had to end the trip early and be rescued by our vans due to the downpour. Saturday's weather was perfect, they say. They had an exhibit of the photo contest winners and runners up too. We saw at least one of Tim's shots. The Wildflowers are going nuts, particularly the Irises and Spider Lilies.

Very cool shots of the off road vehicles. I'd love to try that sometime.
