Another great job Sandy...there are certainly a lot of herons at the Bend to shoot...I was out there Friday afternoon...started back out there Saturday morning but decided to hit the country roads to see what I could find...

I LOVE them all. Can i ask how close you were when you got the night heron pics? and what sized lens you used. i recently got back from florida and one of these birds was across the canal and no matter how hard i tried i just could not get close enough.

You can get pretty close to the birds at BBSP because they are used to people
walking the trails. My guess you can get anywhere from 10 feet and beyond.
I used my Nikon 300mm lens for these and the head shots were used with my 12mm Kenko extension tube. I was about 10 foot from the yellow crown for those.
After around 12 foot using the 300mm lens you start to lose focus when using Extension tubes. Extension Tubes are mainly for Macro Photography but I like to break the rules.

Great shot as always.

One of the things I like about all the heron/egret feeding shots from BBSP is the variety of things I've seen them eating. Your Little Blue Heron caught himself an Red-spotted Newt - a male, in fact.

I really appreciate the ID on that. I didn't have a clue. It certainly was unusual victim for sure.
