Thank you Ron. I think on weekdays, they open the gate at 8am. If you sign up at the office, they will provide you a combination to the front lock that will let you get in before they open up.

Thanks Dennis. I am hitting them with noise reduction (Noiseware). That early in the morning I usually shoot at 800 iso, and on a few of them I had to go as high as 1600 in order to keep my shutter above 400. I also discovered that with the 7D, 1250 iso is a lot noisier than 1600 - I'm going to stop using those intermediate iso settings.

These are all great and I have looked at them all several times but I think #8 is just the best. I love the majestic look with it's wings open.

Get there about 15 minutes early Ron. The rangers tend to open up 10-15 minutes early.

Anyone know if they really wait until 8am to open the gates during the week? I was thinking of heading down there tomorrow but would really like to be shooting long before 8.

It's hit and miss on the gate..during the week I get there a little after 7:00 because I need a little more light to shoot closeups and the gate is usually open by then but the office doesn't open until 8:00 if you need a map...they have a fee drop box at headquarters where you can pay your$5.00 fee...I have a State Park Pass so it's no problem for me...I have had no problems getting in before 8:00 during the week. On weekends (f-s-s) the ranger working at headquarters that morning has to open the gate at around 7:00 most of the time. YMMV.

Before you leave the park, check in with the park personnel and you can set up record of your parkpass. After that you can call in the night before (before 7:00pm) and get the pass key to the gate and come in as early as you want. You have to go into the office first to verify your pass and then they put you in the computer.

Patrick, You got some marvelous photos! I love the series of the Little Blue catching the huge crawfish. And your egret (great and snowys) are spot on exposure. They were all a treat to see!
