Thanks for you nice comments. The wildlife photographers are a warm and friendly group. I did a 15 mile paddle today in a bayou setting, solo, and was nice to return to that earthy smell of so much vegetation. This image was shot with a small waterproof point and shoot, thus the lack of whoopie the SLR's have. Boring shot to most viewers, but if you think about it, who knows how long that tree lived before falling to rest there. I'm sure it did all that trees are supposed to do, and now continues to have function as a pirch for turtles, birds, snakes, etc... The mass of green in the background, well each of those plants had to start so small, that it is pretty impressive to see this gathering now, and to return in the winter to watch again. There is a tree in a bayou I call the heart tree, due to an opening in it shaped like a heart. It's a dead tree rising vertical out of the water. I paddle by it many times, year after year, and it is like an old friend. So seemingly boring nature photos take on different meanings depending on how you look at them. Just sayin.
