I went over to the Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge this evening and this fellow was nice enough to pose for me.

Very nice Jeff...pretty bird...is this the refuge between Wallis and Eagle Lake? That's my home turf...was born and grew up in Eagle Lake...

Thanks Ron. Yep, that's the one. They have a 5-mile auto tour so it's a great one for taking the kids along. We did two times around and then went over to Eagle Lake for dinner.

Sounds like you and the kids had a great day...I need to get back up there...always like to travel all the country gravel roads...never know what you might see...btw where did ya'll eat in Eagle Lake..like there are alot of choices...

We went to Texas Seafood and Steakhouse. The fried seafood was good but I also noticed several of the locals ordering the hamburgers. From where I am here in Katy I prefer to go down FM 1093 through Fulshear, Simonton, Wallis etc. and then cut across one of the field roads to get up to FM 3013 where the Refuge is. Much better chances of seeing Hawks and Caracaras going that way compared to I-10.
