Big Bend Misc - 07-28-2010, 10:44 PM

I shot a few images in the Basin and of the cabin that I couldn't work into my other posts so I'll put them here.

This is SC100. They are a little weird about how they rent this particular cottage. For instance it's only day by day (but since it was July they let me book 3 days). It's not listed on any of their price sheets either. It's perfect for a couples getaway or just to chill out but in my experience you have to call the front desk not the reservation service and you have to ask for it specifically. Even then 1/2 the time the person on the other end doesn't know anything about it.

Here's a really bad shot of Casa Grande  :icon_biggrin:

An equally bad shot of the Window

And a little better shot of the Window

Wonderful! (And now we know who to ask about this cabin.)

Yep... Harris... that cabin is ideal for a couple. If you ever stay there you'll see what I mean.

I was there by myself and it works for that as well. It's walking distance from the restaurant (that I didn't eat in this trip because I got in too late). It's close to other lodging but you can't tell it. It "feels" like you are in your own secret mountain retreat. It's nearly impossible to get during the busy season. Aug / Sept are the best months. They will tell you that you can only rent it for a day but when I asked them if I needed to re-register every morning they asked how long I was going to be there and then changed to a max of 3 days

It's very nice. I don't always stay there. Just when I need to wind down from work or looking for some solitude. I'm not sure what the rate is. I know it's in the $135 range so it's not cheap. More than a Hampton but less than an Omni. Better than both but not because of the amenities.

Thanks. I honestly believe Big Bend is one of Texas' undiscovered treasures. I'm ok with that but at the same time I think people should see it.

Of all people I think you can appreciate this the most Leon- I got home late Wednesday night and when I woke up Thursday morning, as I sat here drinking coffee I thought, "I'm going to Big Bend"... and so it went. By the time I loaded everything up and got on the road it was nearly 1am when I got there, but I was there... and that was what counts
